Press Releases are commonly used as a way to get media attention for a new product, service, or for company branding.   It’s a marketing strategy used by many entrepreneurs to create a wide range of attention.    As large amounts of press releases are going out over 97% will never get the attention it may have deserved.

 

Is this an overused marketing strategy, or is it not being used correctly?

 

Are you considering press releases or media recognition for Your Net Biz?  It can be a powerful, viral tool to get large exposure when it is used effectively.  Media outlets get thousands of submissions per day.  How can you get a well-structured press release for YourNetBiz not to be thrown in with the thousands of other submissions?

 

What do the journalist want from you?  Press Releases are not a place to heavily promote YourNetBiz.  While it offers exposure to a website or blog that you want to bring attention to, that should not be your main focus when writing your press release.    You have to think of what the media would like to know, and what you can offer to the media in terms of YourNetBiz, your products, your services, or maybe a new release.    Your job is to make an announcement that will trigger your press release not to lay doormat, but to achieve the recognition you are going after.

It all starts with your headline.  The editors, journalist does not read your body first.  Many times they won’t read your body at all if the headline does not catch their attention.    It should be catchy, and grab their attention to want to learn more about you and YourNetBiz.

 

The biggest mistakes with press releases are not just the structures, or the outlets you choose to submit them too.  But sometimes it is the whole structure.  While press releases may be used solely for a marketing tool, editors and media outlets do not want sales pitches.  It can become rather annoying to see a catchy title, then to read a virtual ad in the body.  Press releases are not a hard selling feature, rather a release of relevant news. 

 

Tracking results of your press releases is critical.  Our online business mentors biggest message to our students is that it is a learning process.  Do not get discouraged if our first few get little to no exposure.  Track those results, see watch to see what you media outlets are looking for.  And restructure, and learn how to get your press release right.

    searching the web sites of local newspapers - usually neighborhood papers are happy to get well written pieces they can use in their papers, and you can get a good response from sending to them.
